Jimmy Tate talks improvisation

“…as far as the improv goes, it is essential. The ability to be spontaneous in the dance is beyond important. It will help dancers to find new steps, new rhythms, new feels, and also make them think. Dancers who can improv can work with any artist on the spot, with little or no rehearsal.

Most importantly, this improvisational work helped me to discover motivation and purpose in every moment that I am dancing. Tap is, of course, an expressive and self-aware pursuit.”
